Sydenham House Annual Summer Fete
There’s something truly special about a traditional British summer fête. With bunting fluttering in the breeze, the smell of BBQ in the air, and the sound of laughter and live music filling the garden, it’s a much-loved tradition that brings people of all ages together.
At Sydenham House Care Home, we’re thrilled to be continuing this tradition with our Annual Summer Fête, taking place on Saturday 16th August 2025, from 12pm to 4pm. Not only is this event a joyful day for residents, families, and the local community, but it also helps raise vital funds for our residents’ activities programme – ensuring we can continue providing meaningful and enriching experiences all year round.
A Brief History of the British Summer Fête
The summer fête is a longstanding tradition in British culture, with roots going back to village fairs and country festivals of the Victorian era. Originally organised by churches or local communities, these gatherings were a way to mark harvests, raise funds for good causes, and bring people together.
Over time, summer fêtes became fixtures on the calendar, especially in rural and semi-rural areas, offering everything from tombolas and tea tents to traditional games and live entertainment. They celebrate the spirit of community and the simple pleasures of summertime – values we hold dear at Sydenham House.
What to Expect on the Day
We’re pulling out all the stops for this year’s Summer Fête, and we’d love for you to join us for a fun-filled afternoon at our home on High Street, Blakeney, Gloucestershire, GL15 4EB

- Live wartime music from The Sundaes, bringing vintage charm and nostalgia to the day
- Traditional Morris dancers bringing rhythm, colour, and cheer to the garden
Classic Fête Games & Stalls
- Coconut shy
- Play Your Cards Right
- Tombola & Bottle Tombola
- Children’s activity tent to keep little ones entertained
- Toy sale – ideal for picking up a bargain or two
Food, Farm & Refreshments
- A sizzling BBQ with something for everyone
- Refreshments and sweet treats throughout the afternoon
- Homemade pickles, chutneys and jams lovingly made with care
- Fresh produce straight from our very own Awre Farm, which supplies food for the care home year-round
And of course, there will be plenty of seating, shade, and opportunities to relax and soak up the summer atmosphere with friends, family, and fellow members of the community.
Why This Day Matters
While our Summer Fête is a brilliant day out, it also serves a deeper purpose.
Every penny raised goes directly into our Resident Activities Fund, which supports a wide range of events, experiences, and therapies designed to enrich the lives of the people who call Sydenham House home.
This fund helps us offer:
- Weekly activities such as craft sessions, music therapy, reminiscence groups, baking, and gardening
- Special one-off experiences such as visiting performers, day trips, or seasonal celebrations
- Resources that support wellbeing, including sensory items, games, art materials, and more
Your support on the day helps us continue delivering not just excellent care, but the joyful, person-centred experiences that make life at Sydenham House so fulfilling.
Bringing the Community Together
